Cleaning Steel Strip Surface

Cold rolled steel strip contains iron fines and lubricant oil on the surface need to be cleaned to optimized cleaning process, GSA utilize 3 cleaning methods:

• Chemically cleaning using alkaline solution.
• Mechanically cleaning using brush scrubber.
• Electrically cleaning using electrolytic process.

Non Oxidized Furnace (NOF)

GSA has 125 meter length non-oxidized furnace to ensure the homogenous mechanical properties of the product and maximize alloy metal coating adhesion. Non Oxidized Furnace has the ability to perform annealing process which gives lower yield and tensile strength as required by customers. Three stage process at Non oxidized furnace:

• Heating.
• Holding / Soaking.
• Cooling.

Coating Process

After cleaning and heating, the steel strip dipped into the 55% Al-Zn alloy molten metal. The hot dipped coating process equiped with:

• Pot which contains 55% Al-Zn alloy molten metal.
• Sink roll equipment to guide steel strip traveling in the molten metal.
• Air Knife system which controls metal coating mass/thickness on both sides of steel strip surfaces.

Surface Conditioning

The coated steel strip enters the Skin Pass Mill and Tension Leveler to improve mechanical properties, flatness, and surface finish. This ensures the material is perfectly conditioned for the next stage.

Surface Finish Treatment

Three applicable alternatives for Saranalume finish product:

• Passivation Coating: Anti-fingerprint and protects the surface during handling and storage.
• Oiling: Protects the surface from moisture and oxidation.
• Resin Coating (Anti-Finger Print): Leaves a clear, thin layer of resin for enhanced protection and aesthetics.
